DIRECTOR OF GENERAL ASSISTANCE AND SOCIAL WORKER HERE TO HELP RESIDENTS
Our Director of General Assistance, Judy Wilen and Social Worker, Holly Zimmermann, administer our General Assistance Program and serve as intake liaisons for Access to Care. They also provide information and referrals for community resources, emplyment assistance and financial assistance.
General Assistance – A monthly grant paid directly to a landlord or utility company to assist with basic living expenses. An application is required along with documentation. A typical client is:
1) unemployed but looking for work and has used up unemployment benefits; or
2) disabled and has filed a disability claim with Social Security.
Access to Care – A medical assistance program in Cook County that provides services to income eligible residents who have no health care insurance. Niles Township is an intake site for Access to Care. You may be eligible if you are a resident of suburban Cook County with:
1) a family income of less than 200% of the federal poverty guidelines (i.e., $44,300 or less for a family of four)
2) no health insurance and ineligible for Medicare or Public Aid.
Non-Refundable Annual Enrollment Fees are:
$20.00 for one person,
$40.00 for two people and
$50.00 for three or more adult members in one family (this applies to husband, wife, and number of children 19 to 21 ONLY.) Children 18 years and under are NOT charged an enrollment fee.
Access to Care Offers:
Doctor Office Visits - $5.00
Prescription Medication - $10.00, $20.00, $30.00
Lab Tests and X-Rays - $5.00

Child Care Scholarship - provides scholarships for Niles Township pre-school children in local fully licensed day care centers.
The Niles Township Board of Trustees is proud to announce the continuation of the Child Care Scholarship Program. Applications will be available starting July 1, 2011 at the Niles Township Office located at 5255 Main Street in Skokie and at your local day care provider.
In order to be considered for a scholarship, a completed application and the supporting documents must be submitted between July 1 through July 29, 2011. No applications will be accepted after July 29, 2011. Incomplete applications or missing documentation will not be accepted.
